Recently we had a design challenge, wherein the graphic designing team here at Twitchtime, were tasked with a fairly simple jobs for couple of hours. However, it was a friendly competition, taking a break from daily project works for a little while to share our ideas, explore our processes, and grow as designers.

THE CHALLENGE BRIEF

Choose your style and genre and design icons related to it. Create a minimum of four icons for each genre you choose.

THE CHALLENGE SUBMISSIONS

Dixit – “We chose this genre to bring awareness of the concept self-defence. Each colour in the icons represents the belt achievement in the Karate.”

Juhi – “The round shape indicates the protection and hence we made the entire icon placed in the circular shape. Also the two tone design, makes it minimal in representation.”

GENRE – Cyber Crime [By Dixit & Team]

Kaushik – “In fact I was the one who suggested this topic, so the team asked me to put on ideas. Though it doesn’t look like an icon, but still it is an icon. LOL.”

Hardik – “We wanted to represent the forces in unusual way hence we thought of going a free hand design with characters. Plus, we put female character in every icon because nowadays, we have more number of female soldiers getting into our forces.”

Pritesh – “The topic was chosen mutually by me and Hardik. I’m always fascinated by Indian army and hence chose this topic. Also we tried to show women empowerment through these icons.”

ENDING NOTE

We have observed that usually these designers started working on icons with a classic approach – the paper and pencil. Yes, we still believe in this. Be it for the design challenge or the client projects, we sketch it, design it, and add life with graphics and pop arty colours.

NEXT TIME

This was our first design challenge and we really had some great submissions. See you all again for the next challenge!
